School Introduction

The Oklahoma State University campus is located in Stillwater, a city of approximately 40, 000 people in north central Oklahoma. Stillwater has one of the lowest crime rates in the state, and OSU has the lowest crime rate in the Big 12 Conference. OSU is a nationally recognized, public, comprehensive research university with an enrollment of approximately 26, 000 students, 1800 of which are international students from 115 different countries. OSU offers bachelor's, master's, an doctoral degrees in more than 190 degree programs. OSU programs in accounting, agricultural sciences, biological and environmental sciences, engineering, fire protection and safety technology, hotel and restaurant management, integrated design and manufacturing, lasers, materials science, and mathematics are rated among the best in the nation. Furthermore, OSU was named by the Student Guide to America's 100 Best College Buys as the Best College Value in America in 1999.

ESL Program Introduction

The English Language Institute at OSU is an intensive English program designed to help international students attain the English proficiency necessary to enter a college or university in the United States. It is also suitable for those who may wish to learn English for buisness or personal reasons. Experienced and professional faculty members utilize the latest teaching techniques to help studnets attain competency in all aspects of the English language. At the beginning of each semester, an orientation to ELI, OSU and Stillwater is provided and orientation activities continue throughout the semester. Some of the special activities included throughout the year are American holiday celebrations, sporting events, picnics, and short field trips. The Institute is a member of the prestigious UCIEP organization, a consortium of US University and College Intensive English Programs, all of which have undergone an external review and met the organizations's high standards for membership.
