School Introduction

ELTI is the largest and oldest intensive English program in the Carolinas. We are located on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, in the suburbs of Charlotte, the largest city in North Carolina and a large financial center of the eastern United States.
UNC Charlotte is one of the newest branches of the world-famous UNC system of higher education, with over 25, 000 students enrolled in programs at the bachelors, masters and doctoral level. Many of our ELTI students continue into UNCC after completion of their English studies.

ESL Program Introduction

Our program provides seven levels of instruction from beginning to advanced. Students are tested and placed during the orientation period and teachers review all placements twice each semester. Each level has a team of teachers led by one of our master experienced teachers, so the classes are integrated to help the students learn key concepts faster.
Students take three basic classes each term (listening/speaking, reading/writing and grammar), and advanced students also have mini-courses in a variety of topics such as TOEFL prep, American culture through films, pronunciation, fast speech and slang, idioms and so on.
Advanced level students, in their second term, can take one UNCC undergraduate course along with two of the three core ESL classes. They can get an advanced start on a degree, or use the opportunity just to experience the actual university courses.
Each semester the program organizes special events, parties and social outings to help the students mix with each other and with the Charlotte community.
