School Introduction

ICLS is a woman-owned, independent language school based in Washington, DC that was founded in 1966 to provide English as a Second Language (ESL) and foreign language training. We also offer high-quality internships at US companies and organizations through our International Exchange and Business Training Division. We are located centrally in downtown Washington DC only blocks from the White House and other national landmarks. We are easily accessible by public transportation.

ESL Program Introduction

ICLS provides English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for professionals and students in classes that are individually-focused to meet the needs of the students.
At ICLS, we focus on creating community through our friendly personal service, dedicated instructors, and excursions outside the classroom that promote cultural understanding and conversation. Our ESL students are people, not numbers.

ESL instructors use the Induced Discourse method, which encourages constant oral practice in the classroom by engaging students in a continuous exchange with the teacher. This method helps students immerse themselves in English so they can speak and understand the language as a native speaker.

Most ESL instructors have post-graduate degrees and all are experienced working with a diverse array of cultures, ages, and language levels. In addition, ESL instructors have lived abroad and learned other languages, helping them anticipate and accommodate the needs of students in their classes.

Classes are held in our conveniently located school in the heart of Washington, DC, offer flexible scheduling, and are outcome-oriented to ensure the ESL goals of the students are met.

The Intensive English Program (IEP) are offered on a regular basis, and customized groups, private and semi-private classes are available upon request. To learn more about our ESL classes, including our Intensive English, Business English, English for Professionals, Private Instruction, High-Intensity ESL, and TOEFL preparation programs, please contact us today.

Housing/Accommodation Info

Homestay facilities provide the student with the opportunity to stay with an American family. Staying with an American host will offer you a unique opportunity to learn about and experience first hand American lifestyles. You will also learn English much more rapidly while living with an American Host. To ensure that ICLS students have this opportunity, we refer them to Just Like Home, a local organization that specializes in these arrangements. Homestay hosts are professional individuals who have native-like fluency. English is the primary language used in the home. All of the hosts are well educated and have a genuine interest in international cultural exchange. Visits are made to host families to ensure that they meet high standards. All homes are located in safe areas. Just Like Home's homestay program is designed to make our participants feel at home, while away from home. Standard homestay packages are for a 28-day stay and include the following key benefits.
